PAUL RICHER
(18U)
Paul Richer played high school volleyball at Grand River C.I. in Kitchener Ontario capturing the silver medal at AAAA OFSAA once. He played a 4 year career at Dalhousie University finishing 4th in Canada in both the 05/06 and 07/08 seasons. Paul was named conference libero of the year in his 4th and final year with the Tigers.
Paul's coaching career started in Ontario coaching a U14 women's team with the Waterloo Tigers club. After moving to Halifax he coached at the Dalhousie Camps during his time as a player at Dalhousie. After his playing career at Dal ended he took a full time assistant coaching position with the Dalhousie men's volleyball team. He also coached the U20 Halifax tigers to a National Championship in 2009.
Paul is strongly influenced by Dalhousie men's volleyball head coach Dan Ota. He played for Dan for 4 years and then coached alongside Dan for the 2008/09 season at Dal. Paul specializes in technical aspects of the game but is most familiar with the passing and defense parts of the game
GREG BLACK (18U)
Greg Black played high school volleyball in Moncton, NB at Harrison Trimble High School and played for team New Brunswick throughout high school. Greg played 2 years of volleyball at the University of Waterloo and 3 more years at the University of New Brunswick. During his university career he played a number of different positions and was named a first team all star all three years at UNB. He was fortunate to win a ring of distinction from UNB athletics which is awarded to athletes who demonstrate excellence in athletics and leadership during their playing careers.
After finishing playing he worked as an assistant coach for one season alongside Dan McMorran, UNB head coach. Playing multiple positions and coaching with Dan, has provided Greg with a well rounded understanding of the game.
MATTHEW HARTLEN (16U)
Matthew Hartlen has been a member of the volleyball community in Nova Scotia for 28 years. He started his volleyball career at Uniacke District School as an elementary school student and played High School Volleyball at Windsor Regional High School. Matthew played for the Lakers club, where he was named to the U18 National All-Star Team in his final year of club volleyball, and represented his province as a member of the NS Provincial team in numerous competitions. He went on to play for Dalhousie University, was a member of the CIAU (CIS) Silver Medal team in 1997.
Matthew’s coaching experience ranges from the Junior High to CCAA College levels, where he was named the Atlantic College Conference Coach of the year. Matthew is an elementary school teacher in Halifax and returned to coaching last season after taking several years away to gain a Master’s Degree and his Level 3 certification as a volleyball referee.
