Tigers Volleyball Club serves Halifax and it's surrounding communities in providing our youth with high quality volleyball programs. Our Club takes pride in our successful track record of promoting and fostering leadership, organizational, team and life skills for the benefit of its members.

Dan Ota - Director of Men’s Programs

 

This is Dan Ota’s 18th season as head coach of the men’s volleyball Tigers. Coach Ota will look to help the Tigers capture the AUS banner, which they have won 33 of the past 37 seasons.

Coach Ota is a 14-time recipient of the AUS Coach of the Year award and was Dalhousie’s Coach of the Year in 2014-15 and 2007-08. He sports a career 237-45 win-loss record in regular season conference play (381-165 overall). Coach Ota has enjoyed success at every level of coaching, winning provincial titles at both the high school and club levels in Alberta, a Western Canadian championship in 1997 with Team Alberta, and a silver medal at the 2007 World Universiade Games with Team Canada. This past summer he was on the coaching staff for Volleyball Canada’s Youth National Development Team that won a silver medal at the USAV High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Dan is a former Executive Director for Volleyball Nova Scotia as well as a former Technical Director for Alberta Volleyball. He is a certified NCCP Level 3 coach and Master Learning Facilitator. He obtained a Master of Kinesiology (Art and Science of Coaching) degree from the University of Calgary. A native of Calgary, AB, Dan has lived in Halifax for over 20 years. Away from volleyball, he enjoys playing hockey and golf.

Eugene Tan - President

Eugene has been coaching youth volleyball since 1999. A certified NCCP Level 3 coach, he has been active in the region for many years and has been instrumental in the growth and success of various Halifax area volleyball clubs. Eugene has worked at the provincial team level for many years, coaching alongside Coach Dan Ota with the 2005 Canada Games Team and as an assistant coach of the Dalhousie Tigers Men’s Volleyball team for a number of years. Most recently, Eugene was the head coach of the Nova Scotia entry at the 2009 Canada Summer Games in Charlottetown, PEI. He has also served as President of Volleyball Nova Scotia. Off the court, Eugene works as a lawyer for Bailey & Associates. He is a native of Guelph, ON but has called Halifax home since 1996.

He was the recipient of an IKON provincial coaching award in 2004, and led various teams, both male and female to provincial and regional championships.

Eugene is very proud of the on-court and off-court accomplishments of the athletes that he has had the privilege to coach, and is very happy to be coaching alongside many of his former players.
